🥦 We ate 8x more veggies this week

with this 1 tiny change literally anyone can do

Kids like junk food.

Correction: Humans like junk food.

Like anything tempting, if it’s right in front of your face, it’s hard to turn down.

But what if healthy choices were right in front of your face?

We recently conducted an experiment in my house inspired by an interesting study from Cornell University where they sought out to answer that very question.

Specifically, Cornell’s study looked at the placement of food in lunchrooms.

They noticed that despite healthy options simply being available, they were only consumed by a very small number of students.

So what’d they do?

Literally just put the fruit in a colorful bowl, and within easy reach of children.

What happened?

104% increase in fruit consumption.

Another study found that placing fresh produce in more open, obvious presentations in stores increased fruit & veggie purchases by $40/month.

So, back to my family’s experiment.

We want to make healthier food choices. Specifically, we want to eat more veggies.

Looking at the fridge the other day, it hit me that the veggie drawer is literally the bottom drawer.

You literally can’t get further from eye level than basically on the floor!

So we swapped our bread to the bottom drawer and fruits and veggies up higher, front and center for both us and the kids.

And the craziest thing happened…

We ate an absolute crap-ton of veggies the last couple weeks!

We started having lunches 2-3x a week where lunch was literally just vegetables.

And you know what? It’s been super filling, to the point where sometimes I’m not even hungry yet when dinner comes around.

The lesson is two-fold:

  1. Wanna eat healthier foods? Put them front and center, right in front of your face. Hide the bad stuff. See what happens.

  2. If you want to be better in any area of your life… consider what you’re putting in front of your face all day long. Who do you hang out with? What content do you watch, read, listen to? Adjust any one of those things, and your life will naturally start to shift.

Whatever we put our attention on will grow stronger in our life.
