Over a year ago I wrote a post sharing 9 weird facts, followed by hot takes on how each one might relate to building habits. Round 2 came about 6 months ago, and round 3 came in back in January and Round 4 dropped in April.

Many of you have said they’re your favorite, so here goes round 5!

#1 - Butterflies can taste with their feet.

Butterfly taste sensors are located on their feet, helping them identify suitable plants for laying eggs.

Takeaway: Your "first steps" in any habit often reveal what works. Don’t overthink—just start, and refine as you go.

#2 - Venus spins backward.

Unlike most planets, Venus rotates in the opposite direction, with its sun rising in the west.

Takeaway: Going against the norm can feel counterintuitive, but sometimes it’s the only way to find your unique path to success.

#3 - Wombat poop is cube-shaped.

Wombats use their distinctively shaped droppings to mark territory without them rolling away.

Takeaway: Structure matters. When your habits are clearly defined, they’re less likely to "roll out of control."

#4 - The ancient Egyptians used honey as an antibiotic.

Honey’s antibacterial properties made it a go-to remedy for wounds thousands of years ago.

Takeaway: The simplest tools, like honey—or starting small with habits—can be surprisingly effective in creating lasting results.

#5 - Sloths can hold their breath longer than dolphins.

A sloth can slow its heart rate and hold its breath for up to 40 minutes, compared to a dolphin’s 10 minutes.

Takeaway: Sometimes, the key to success is slowing down. Rushing through your habits can lead to burnout—pace yourself for the long game.

#6 - One cubic centimeter of your body emits more energy than 1 cubic centimeter of the Sun.

The biochemical processes in human cells release energy at a rate that, per cubic centimeter, exceeds the Sun's energy output at the same scale.

Takeaway: You carry immense potential within you. Just like energy waiting to be unleashed, your habits have the power to create exponential change when focused in the right direction.

#7 - Whales can drown.

Despite living in water, whales must surface to breathe and can drown if they can’t.

Takeaway: Even if you’re thriving in one area, don’t forget the fundamentals—like rest, reflection, or health.

#8 - Lightning strikes the Earth 8.6 million times a day.

That’s about 100 lightning bolts every second somewhere on the planet.

Takeaway: Opportunities for growth (or "sparks of change") are constant, but you need to be looking for them to take advantage.

#9 - There’s a species of jellyfish that can live forever.

The Turritopsis dohrnii can revert its cells to an earlier stage of life, effectively making it biologically immortal under the right conditions.

Takeaway: Renewal is key to longevity. Don’t hesitate to restart a habit or "go back" to basics if you hit a slump.
