Yesterday morning this text showed up from my wife:

A family friend of ours who’s been battling cancer the last 1-2 years passed away.
51 years old. 10 kids. Healthy guy.
Incredible human.
Gone.
And what instantly hurt, was that he and I were texting just a couple weeks ago.
He was sharing with me some things he’d been studying that he’s super passionate about.
I was genuinely interested and wanted to learn more from him (especially knowing of his declining health).
But as life often does, I got busy.
Kept saying I’d text him back tomorrow.
So there it sat in my unread messages, day after day.
Never responded.
And now it’s just an unfinished conversation that I’ll never get the chance to reply to in this life.
So you know that feeling you have to reach out to that person who’s been on your mind…?
Stop putting it off for tomorrow.
Call your mom.
Text that friend.
Say hi to your neighbor.
Hug your kids.
Visit your grandparents.
Connect with the people you care about.
Live while you’re here, and love what you’ve got.
Because you’re only here, until you’re not.
