With the new year right around the corner, everyone’s talking about resolutions. But let’s be honest—most resolutions are abandoned before February.

*womp womp*

What if we tried something different this year?

Instead of setting resolutions, imagine it’s December 31, 2025, and you’re looking back on an incredible year. You’ve made real progress, built meaningful habits, and surprised yourself with what you accomplished.

Now, take it one step further: Write a letter from your future self to your current self. This simple exercise will help you think about the habits, choices, and moments that could define your 2025—and it’s way more fun than writing another list of goals you won’t care about in a month.

Prompts to Write Your Letter:

Set aside 15 minutes, grab a notebook (or open a fresh doc), and let your future self do the talking. Not sure where to start? Use these prompts to spark ideas:

  1. Wins and Milestones:

    • What’s one thing you achieved in 2025 that made you proud?

    • What small habits helped you get there?

  2. Challenges and Lessons:

    • What was the toughest thing you faced this year, and how did you handle it?

    • What lesson did you learn that changed how you think or act?

  3. Personal Growth:

    • What’s different about you now compared to a year ago?

    • What habits helped you become the person you are today?

  4. Relationships:

    • Who were the key people in your life this year?

    • What habits made those relationships stronger or more meaningful?

  5. Health and Energy:

    • How did you take care of your body and mind in 2025?

    • What daily habits helped you feel your best?

  6. Surprises and Joys:

    • What’s something amazing or unexpected that happened this year?

    • How did your habits help make space for these moments?

  7. Advice for 2024 You:

    • If you could send one piece of advice back to your 2024 self, what would it be?

    • What’s one habit you’d tell yourself to start right away?

Your Turn:

This exercise works because it helps you think about who you want to become, not just what you want to do. You’re not chasing random goals—you’re creating a life that feels like you.

Try it out. Set a timer for 15 minutes, answer as many prompts as you can, and let your future self inspire you.

Next: Reread this letter to yourself once a month to remind yourself the vision you had for the year. See where you might be on track, where you’re off track, and what adjustments to make along the way. Don’t like reading? Record yourself reading it and just listen to the audio!

And hey, if you write something you’re proud of, hit reply to this email and share it with me. I’d love to read a line or two.

Here’s to making 2025 a year worth writing about.
